Recently, Airwoods successfully delivered custom glycol heat recovery air handling units (AHUs) to a hospital in Poland. Engineered specifically for operating theater environments, these AHUs integrate multi-stage filtration and an innovative segregated structure to decisively address critical healthcare challenges: excessive energy consumption, inadequate air cleanliness, and cross-contamination risks.
Targeted Solutions for Surgical Air Management
Operating rooms demand uncompromising air quality standards. Airwoods's healthcare-focused engineering delivers bespoke solutions at every level:
1. Glycol Heat Recovery: Balancing Efficiency & Precision
Operating theaters require 24/7 ventilation, creating immense energy pressure. After evaluating chilled water and refrigerant options, the client selected glycol as the energy recovery medium. Leveraging Airwoods's proven glycol heat recovery technology, the system maintains stable OR temperatures while reducing energy consumption – delivering long-term operational savings.
2. Three-Stage Filtration: Ensuring Medical-Grade Cleanliness
Air purity directly impacts surgical outcomes and patient recovery. Airwoods's AHU incorporates a medical-grade three-stage filtration system that captures 99.97% of particles, contaminants, and bacteria – creating a pristine breathing environment for medical teams and patients.
3. Physically Segregated Design: Eliminating Cross-Contamination
To avoid aerosol contamination that may occur in operation rooms post-surgery, Airwoods designed the AHUs with individual ventilation systems for the supply and exhaust units. The supply unit delivers clean, fresh air to patients, doctors, and nurses, while the exhaust unit removes indoor air through a separate system. This design eliminates cross flow, effectively preventing contamination risks.
4. 50mm Polyurethane Insulation: Dual Performance in Energy Efficiency & Noise Control
Airwoods utilized 50mm polyurethane as the core insulation material for the units. This material offers excellent heat retention properties to minimize energy loss and also contributes to sound reduction, ensuring a quieter environment in the operation theatres.
This project demonstrates Airwoods's capability to provide tailored solutions for specialized healthcare environments, combining advanced technology with practical design to meet the unique needs of medical facilities.
